With its long, white-sand beach and crystal clear water, Ngapali Beach has long been a favourite seaside destination for domestic and foreign tourists. The origin of its name is unclear, but some believe it was named by a visiting group of Italians who hailed from Naples, pronounced Napoli in Italian. Apart from swimming, sunbathing and snorkeling, visitors can also rent bicycles to explore the surrounding area. The beach is about four miles (6.4 km) from the Rakhine State town of Thandwe (Sandoway). The best time to visit the beach is from mid-October to May, when a number of airlines offer flights from Yangon. It is also accessible by road.
About one hour drive from Pathein , Ngwe Saung Beach has emerged as one of the most popular seaside resorts for domestic travellers. Like nearby Chaungtha Beach, it can be reached by road from Yangon in about six hours. The best way to reach Chaungtha and Ngwe Saung beaches is by car. It is also possible to travel from Yangon to Pathein by plane or double-decker river boat, and take a car for the rest of the journey.
Chaungtha Beach has a clear water and soft, clean white sand and is fringed by palm trees. About 32 miles (51 km) west of the Ayeyawaddy Region capital Pathein, it is about six hours drive from Yangon. Due to its proximity to Yangon it is popular with domestic tourists.
